About Us

The brainchild of Gavin Dutot, Maverick Arts has been in existence since 1999. Our purpose is to allow young people from 10-25 to experience the world of performing arts in a fun, supportive  environment.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of our young members, we have a supportive home at St Clements, and an effective and growing range of technical equipment and costume which are available for hire to other groups and schools etc. These are merely "things" though, Maverick's most important assets will always be the enthusiasm and commitment of its young members.

Maverick Arts has always kept its costs low. We are able to offer a simple rate of only £10 per production. This makes Maverick Arts one of the cheapest ways to introduce young people to the world of performing arts.

The Company

Ten years ago Michael Braunton and Gavin Dutot arrived at St Clement's Church, Parkstone seeking a base to operate their own company after extensive work for Poole and Bournemouth Youth Services. Thanks to Vicar Jonathan Foster we were welcomed into the chruch hall which has duly become our home. Maverick was born and thereby hangs an un-published history book.

Almost Sixty different Shows and Import Productions in many different venues have been performed to say nothing of work with different local schools, churches and organisations ranging from Beaulieu Motor Museum to Holiday On Ice via Southampton Kite Festival and currently Poole Community Passion Play for the second year running.

Many Chaperones  have made this possible and we  thank them all, especially the indomitable Susan who has faithfully put up with, opposed with good reason, and often as not joined in with our insanity since the beginning.

Highlights of the adventure have included seeing fourteen year old Maverick James Williams play Aaron in MOSES MOVIN' OUT phonetically in a language didn't speak in Romania; Sarah Barker's astonishing triophenic mental patient witch in MACBETH,and the site of ten year old Carl Christopher as Young MacDuff complete with ray gun dedicatedly shooting aliens in the same production,. It is an honour to be able to witness so many young people challenging themselves, pushing beyond what they feel they can achieve and succeeding often only motivated by what they have seen their peers do.

Long may it last and thank you more than all of us can ever say to all who have and will make it possible.

With Thanks

Gavin
Artistic Director

What we do

A typical year for Maverick Arts involves four main shows. These cover a range of styles, always trying to include at least one musical and one straight play each season, plus a pantomime.

We encourage original works, and recently ran a successful single act play entitled "INTERNS?" devised entirely by the cast themselves.

In addition, members may have the opportunity to take part in  film projects. "JETS" is currently in production under Gavin's direction and Brawny has proposed shooting a new film following on from the outrageously successful "Norwich & Saggers", a full length feature film recently completed.
